Dharma Study Group - Chos Grwa
God I am so bad at this.....I went to stay at my moms for the weekend (the weekend for me is Sunday and Monday) and I forgot to bring my book, so I cant post a reading assignment until I get back home. For now I will try my best to at least give everyone something to do.
1. What was your favorite section of chapter 2?
2. Have you applied anything you read from chapter 2 in your life? Has it helped?
3. Quote a line from chapter two that you found helpful.
If anyone is familiar with Tonglin meditation I think it would be good to try it since it involves taking suffering into yourself and giving out good things. I will try to lead a short practice as best as I can.
Start with your normal breathing meditation, continue focusing on your breath until your mind is clear and calm. Think of someone in your life who may be suffering. All their pain and suffering take the form of black smoke inside their body. As you slowly breath in, that smoke comes out of their mouth and nose and drift to your mouth and nose and enter your body. As you breath out you send purifying white light from your breath and it enters into them. Once you have visually breathed all of the black smoke from them and breath in all the white light. Now the black smoke is inside of you. But you have the power to destroy it inside your own body. At your heart center is a flower the blooms once it has reached full bloom it emits white light and all the black smoke instantly vanishes from your body. Now you and your friend are pure white light. You have compassion for all beings no matter if they harm or help you. You have the power to change not only your life but to help others change theirs.
Thats the best I can do with my limited knowledge, if anyone knows a good discription of Tonglin please post....the more meditation the better!
